From my inner child to yours

When I was 3 years old, I used to love watching a kids show where a clay artist would sculpt an animal and tell a story. I was mesmerized and hooked. I remember when they were sculpting a bunny/rhino. My only wish was that I could sculpt like that. Fast forward over 3 decades and here we are, that dream came true now that kid is sculpting those animals and other whimsical creatures for your inner child! 

Making tiny vessels of joy

Even after years of sculpting, I still reach that joy every single day thinking, “I’m doing it, I’m ACTUALLY doing it!”. Each piece I make is a little vessel for that feeling of joy. Each piece a unique, handmade piece of the story and Mai Darling Designs universe. 

Nature, Fantasy, Sparkle and Space

When I make my pieces, it’s my inner child at work. I transfer a lot of my happy childhood memories and experiences into my work. It’s a mixture of pop-culture nostalgia from the late 80’s to early 90’s, spiced up with what I imagine in my dreams, feel or experience when I spend my time in the nature. My deep love for animals is very much present in my work. Things like Never Ending Story, Willow, Legend, Starwars, Care Bears, My little pony etc. have had a huge impact on me when I was a child. The aesthetics, unique worlds and stories are something that captivated me when I was a kid - they still do. That is something I want to contribute through my work - to create those experiences for others.
